The Bowers Museum enriches lives through the world's finest arts and cultures. For over eight decades, the Bowers Museum has evolved in many ways. From a relatively small museum focusing on Orange County history, the Bowers is now 8.6 times larger. Now it has the distinction of being the largest museum in Orange County and one of the finest cultural arts museums in the region. Its collections, programs, and exhibitions still include Orange County history but now reflect the demographics of Southern California by celebrating its diverse cultural makeup, with a major emphasis on the fine arts of the indigenous peoples of the Americas and the Pacific.

The Bowers Museum’s permanent collection has grown substantially since the museum’s inception. Currently, the collection numbers over 90,000 artifacts and works of art.

PART 1

Photography, color grading and design.

In this project, I used the power of photography and color grading to help elevate the Bowers Museum brand.

This brand-new set of stock photos shines a light on the enrichment of cultural history that Bowers Museum has brought to Orange County over the decades.

By manipulating how the light shines on the artifacts’ surfaces, I was able to create motion-like patterns in my photos.

The light also shines uniquely on every object, giving them their very own personalities in front of the camera.

This reflects Bower’s diversity in collections, and aligns deeply with their mission “Celebrate world cultures through their arts.“

Part 2:

Events poster design, layout, and color grading.

This part of the project showcases a series of 12 posters designed for the Free Family Festival, a traditional activity hosted at Bowers every month.

Iconography

Key Art

This festival has a long-standing history and a firm customer base. That is why it is vital to keep the original logo to ensure a smooth and successful brand evolution.

Every month, Free Family Festivals focus on a different international festival to address its diverse user base.

This is why designing for inclusivity is important to me in this project. My goal for the design is to make everyone feel seen and valued, regardless of their background.
